Skycast Terms of Service

1. Acceptance

By installing or using Skycast (“the App”) you agree to these Terms of Service (“Terms”). If you do not agree, do not install or use the App.

These Terms apply alongside Apple’s standard End User License Agreement (“Apple EULA”) that governs every app distributed through the App Store. Where Apple’s EULA conflicts with these Terms, Apple’s EULA takes precedence for App Store distribution matters.

2. License

We grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to use Skycast on iOS, iPadOS, or any other Apple platform where the App is officially distributed, on devices you own or control, in accordance with Apple’s EULA.

This licence does not transfer any ownership of Skycast itself, its source code, its assets, or its trademarks.

3. In-App Purchases

3.1 What is sold

  • Skycast Pro — one-time purchase, €8.99 (or the equivalent in your local App Store currency). Unlocks the features listed under “Pro Features” in the App. The Pro unlock is a one-time purchase, not a subscription.
  • Tips — optional one-time purchases at price points between €0.99 and €9.99. Tips are gestures of support and do not unlock any additional feature.

3.2 How purchases are handled

All payments are processed by Apple through StoreKit. We never see your payment card or billing address. Apple’s privacy policy and Apple’s standard terms govern the transaction itself.

3.3 Family Sharing

Skycast Pro is available for Family Sharing. If the purchaser enables Family Sharing in their Apple ID settings, every member of the Family group has access to Pro features on their own device, on their own Apple ID.

Tips are not eligible for Family Sharing — they are individual contributions tied to the purchasing Apple ID.

3.4 Refunds

Refunds for in-app purchases are handled by Apple. Apple’s standard policy gives you a 14-day refund window in most jurisdictions. To request a refund:

  1. Visit https://reportaproblem.apple.com
  2. Sign in with the Apple ID used to purchase
  3. Select the Skycast purchase and the reason

We cannot issue refunds directly because we never received your money — Apple did.

3.5 Free tier

You may use Skycast without any in-app purchase. The free tier includes:

  • Weather data via Open-Meteo
  • One active wallpaper slot (Home Screen OR Lock Screen, not both at once)
  • The full theme Editor, including saving themes you create
  • All bundled and downloadable icon sets, fonts, weather walls
  • All home-screen weather animations
  • Discover Tab (browse and install community themes)
  • The widget and Shortcut integrations

Pro unlocks: additional weather providers (The Weather Channel, OpenWeatherMap, Pirate Weather), both wallpaper slots simultaneously, and importing/exporting themes as .swtheme files.

4. Acceptable use

You agree that you will not:

  • Reverse-engineer, decompile, or disassemble the App (except where expressly permitted by applicable law)
  • Use the App to violate any law
  • Use the App to harass, abuse, or threaten others
  • Distribute themes that contain illegal, harmful, or hateful content
  • Bypass or attempt to bypass the Pro entitlement check
  • Use Skycast for any commercial purpose that competes directly with Skycast itself

5. Community content

Skycast’s Discover tab and the public WeatherWalls catalogue feature content contributed by users and third parties.

  • Community contributions are reviewed for basic technical compatibility but not for quality, accuracy, or appropriateness.
  • We do not warrant that community content is free of bugs, suitable for any purpose, or fit for any particular use.
  • You install and use community content at your own risk.
  • If you encounter content that violates these Terms or applicable law, please report it via GitHub issues (see section 11).

6. Third-party services

Skycast can talk to several third-party services on your behalf (weather providers, geocoding services, maps, GitHub-hosted downloads, custom JSON endpoints you configure). These services have their own terms and privacy policies. You are responsible for complying with the terms of any third-party service you choose to use.

We are not responsible for the availability, accuracy, or behaviour of any third-party service.

7. Weather data is informational only

Weather forecasts, current conditions, and atmospheric data shown by Skycast come from third-party providers and may be incomplete, delayed, or inaccurate. Do not rely on Skycast for safety-critical decisions (aviation, marine, emergency response, severe-weather preparation, etc.). Always consult an authoritative source for such decisions.

8. Disclaimer of warranties

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Skycast is provided “as is” and “as available” without warranty of any kind, express or implied, including without limitation warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or non-infringement.

9. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, we are not liable for any indirect, incidental, consequential, special, or exemplary damages arising from your use of, or inability to use, Skycast. Our total liability for any claim arising from Skycast is limited to the amount you paid for the App (typically €8.99 or less for Pro, and €0 for the free tier).

This section does not exclude liability that cannot be excluded under applicable law (such as liability for gross negligence or wilful misconduct under German law).

10. Termination

You may stop using Skycast at any time by uninstalling it from your device. We may suspend or terminate the App’s availability if required to do so by Apple, by applicable law, or for sustained maintenance reasons. In-app purchases already made remain governed by Apple’s refund policy.

11. Governing law and jurisdiction

These Terms are governed by the laws of the Federal Republic of Germany, excluding conflict-of-laws rules. The exclusive place of jurisdiction for any dispute arising from these Terms is the competent court for the developer’s place of residence, to the extent permitted under applicable consumer-protection law.

Nothing in this section deprives consumers of mandatory protections available under the law of their country of residence.

12. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms when Skycast’s feature set, pricing, or distribution changes materially. The current version is always at this URL with the Last updated date at the top. Continued use of Skycast after a material change means you accept the new Terms.
